Oslo, Norway – The number of drones in Norway has reached 565 000, according to the Norwegian Drone Barometer, a survey presented at the UNC 2024 drone conference in Oslo on Wednesday.

The survey, conducted by Opinion, found that the number of drones in Norway has more than doubled since 2017, when the Norwegian Drone Barometer first began tracking the data.

Key findings of the survey include:
  • The number of drones in Norway has increased from 230,000 in 2017 to 565,000 in 2024.
  • The increase in the number of drones is due to a number of factors, including the falling cost of drones, the increasing popularity of drone photography and videography, and the growing use of drones for commercial purposes.
  • Norwegians have a positive attitude towards drones, with 63% of respondents saying they have a positive view of drones.
  • Drone pilots want more control over drone operations, with 54% of professional operators and 49% of non-commercial operators saying they would like to see more regulation of drone flying.
  • There is strong support for mandatory registration of drone flights, with 69% of professional operators and 59% of non-commercial operators saying they would like to see a mandatory registration system.

The Norwegian Drone Barometer is a valuable resource for understanding the state of the drone industry in Norway. The survey provides insights into the number of drones in Norway, the attitudes of Norwegians towards drones, and the views of drone pilots on regulation.
